This is no climate change: this is a climate catastrophe

We are very delighted to hear, that Greta Thunberg dedicated the Golden Camera she won to the Hambis, but it is not very amazing: we struggle for the same goal. We do not want to participate in any personality cult, and Greta too is far from that, as this dedication shows. This dedication comes immediately after a new repression, allegedly due to a fallen bucket (“throw of feces”). It is the many many people – and lots of them being young – who no longer want to accept how their future is being ruined. See picture left.
“We want you to panic!”
The award ceremony not only shows Greta’s speech, impressive as always, but also the audience’s response as she dedicates the award to the Hambis. She has to interrupt her speech for thunderous applause. Well, Armin and Herbert and Dirk *), probably this is not what you wanted, when you thought, you just could throw out the Hambis for your RWE bosses, right?

As an appreciation of her solidarity, we, as #hambacherforst activists, would like to give a harness to @GretaThunberg. We would love to see you in the forest on a Friday.

*) Armin Laschet: Prime minister of North Rhine-Westphalia
Herbert Reul: His police minister, former teacher!
Dirk Weinspach: Police chief of Aachen, responsible for the Hambach Forest
RWE: Their boss, owner of the lignite industry in West Germany

It is and remains the same struggle

Although we realize that a police action in the forest can happen at any time, we startle at seven o’clock in the morning of Monday morning when we are awakened by the call “police in the forest”. Police vans come along the former A4 motorway, stop and cops get out. Quickly we bring important stuff behind the protective fence under the tower, close and barricade the entrance and pull up the ladder. Meanwhile crow’s nest is surrounded. Police squads photograph and map the location of the tree houses. Chants are yelled. We are tense. A wheel loader enters into the forest and transports deadwood away. Then the driver approaches the tower with aggressive gestures. On its balcony activists observe the situation. He drops his gripper arm on the rinsing station below, more…

12:00 am “End of the operation”: Police and RWE leave the forest. It may be that it will take a while for everyone to get away or that they come back at any time. Criminal charge now: attempted grievous bodily harm because of a fallen bucket. Regardless of the content, this could have injured a person on the ground from this large fall height.
11:20 Currently all eviction measures are discontinued. The person is brought to Aachen. It will be checked if this is the one whom the police is looking for.
11:05 One person “voluntarily” left a tree house and is now in police treatment on the former A4. It is unclear what the reasons are and whether that has any impact on the ongoing eviction.
10:50 The first tree of the day is felled. more…

Since today there is a large police operation in Hambach Forest again.

In the early morning hours, the vigil was surrounded and searched, allegedly to check the conditions imposed by the assembly authority.

Then police entered the forest with 2 hundreds, together with RWE workers and security guards, according to their own statements in order to eliminate “trash and non-forest objects and to restore traffic safety”. Nothing new, they often come for such “floor clearances”, which is to destroy kitchens, toilets and other infrastructure that are located on the floor. more…

Spring-clean in Hambi

This week the 2nd Hambi spring-clean will take place!

On March 22, 2019, we meet at the gravel pit at 10:00 o’clock, equip ourselves with garbage bags, garbage tongs and gloves to clean the forest from the garbage. At 3:00 pm the garbage will be picked up. Collecting point is on the L276 at the parking lot next to the slip-road to the ancient motorway A4. more…

The allegations by the Aachen police and the Springer press

During the last few days there has been massive excitement over trees, allegedly felled by activists. This was mainly spread by the police in Aachen and the media of the Axel Springer publishing house. But there are also some newspapers that seem to attach importance to serious journalism. The newspaper neues Deutschland researched once more. Here we quote an excerpt of an article that reflects well the whole situation:

“… An occupant said to the »nd«: »These are dead spruces of bark beetle-infested monocultures that were planted in the forest for forestry purposes«. She said that RWE does nothing about bark beetles. »It’s not us who fell our forest. The bark beetles harm these monocultures (…)« Some spruce monocultures have already died from doing nothing. The occupants call a part of it Zombie Forest, because there are only dead trees that regularly just tip over and get stuck in each others. There a reforestation with more native trees could improve the forest.

If you look at the pictures of the police again, you will notice that the felled trees really stood between closely planted spruce trees and not in the old forest of hornbeams and pedunculate oak trees. From an ecological point of view, there should be little talk against the fellings by the forest occupants…” more…

Skillsharing-Camp in Hambach Forest, April 12th – 24th

Soon it is time again, from April 12th to 24th is again Skillsharing Camp in Hambach Forest. After the last Skillshare was unfortunately not so great because of the external circumstances (comment of the then Orga: “We would better have canceled it than performing it at any price and making lame compromises with the Manheim Camp.”), this time it’s going to be a real Hambi-Skillshare as we know and love it. So forget boring life for two weeks, with main content like school, college or wage work and come over for fun, learning and networking.
