We have received the following message:
—– Orchids against concrete: Welcome to the first forest occupation of Switzerland! ——
We occupy since Saturday the hill Mormont near Eclépens (Canton de Vaud, Switzerland) to resist against the expansion plans of the Swiss cement group HOLCIM. Despite the many objections raised by local associations and NGOs (ProNatura, WWF, ASM) against the expansion of the quarry, the current 2800 m² pit has to be enlarged. This way, a large part of the hill flank and top would be blown up. This area is known as one of the richest flora habitats of the central Jura mountains and specially for its variety of orchids.
HOLCIM is a part of the “Carbon Majors” group, which emits lots of CO2. Concrete production is causing irreversible damage to ecosystems, and we want to stop at Eclépens against them. We demand the immediate omission of those eating their way into the hill Blasting and the preservation of the Mormont Hill.
At the moment we are about 30-40 people and are slowly growing. You are all cordially welcome, there are overnight accommodations in two yurts and a squatted house, where the Mole-Volkxköch*innen-Kollektiv supports us at the moment (ver)-delicious!
We are looking forward to you to support us with the occupation, the construction of further tree houses and the infrastructure in general.
Of course we will be pleased if you share this call!
Your orchids (:
